Terms and Conditions #
A successful study abroad experience is dependent upon respect for the norms, traditions, and laws of the host country. Each student is expected to use maturity and reasonable judgment in his or her conduct while abroad and is required to assume full responsibility for his or her own behavior while enrolled in The Swedish Program at the Stockholm School of Economics.
Students should remember that while they are in Sweden, they are subject to Swedish laws. Similarly, while traveling in any foreign country, the student will be subject to the laws of that country. It is the responsibility of each student to know and comply with Swedish laws or the laws of any country in which the student may be traveling.
In Sweden, as in most countries, the use of drugs is illegal. Use of illegal drugs or abuse of alcohol may result in the immediate termination of the student from the Program. The Executive Director of the Program further reserves the right to dismiss from the Program any student whose conduct interferes with the right or well-being of any other student, person or the Program as a whole.
All students are required to read and abide by the housing regulations. Any violation of such regulations may result in eviction from their housing. Students who are evicted from their housing will be in violation of this Terms and Conditions Agreement. Consequently, any such violation may result in either suspension or expulsion from the Program. Lastly, students who are in such violations, but are not expelled from the Program, will be financially responsible for their own alternative housing including any necessary hotel accommodations. These regulations are also applicable to hotels during the Program’s excursions to Sandhamn, Gotland, and the Arctic Circle.
The Swedish Program is committed to maintaining the Program free of sexual harassment and all forms of sexual intimidations and exploitation. Conduct that is found to constitute sexual harassment is unacceptable and may result in discipline and penalties, including dismissal from the Program.
Each student is expected to regularly attend and participate fully both in the academic program in which they are enrolled and the cultural component of the Program. The Director of the Program reserves the right to dismiss from the Program any student who is found cheating on an examination or who has knowingly plagiarized the work of another or who otherwise purposefully fails to comply with the Program’s academic requirements.
The Program further reserves the right to enforce those rules, standards and instructions set out in the Program brochure and pre-departure memoranda or publications. A student’s intentional failure to follow said rules, standards, or instructions, including those given prior to departure, may result in that student’s dismissal from the Program.
The student and student’s legal guardian, if any, agree to assume all financial responsibility for the student while enrolled in the Program, consistent with the terms and conditions set forth in the Program brochure and pre-departure memoranda or publications. The student and his or her legal guardian further certify that, to the best of their knowledge, the student is not suffering from any physical or mental conditions which would unreasonably impair the student’s ability to participate in the Program. The student and the student’s legal guardian further acknowledge that they understand the benefits and limits of our Program-sponsored health insurance coverage while enrolled in the Program. Students and legal guardians are responsible for utilizing the Program-sponsored health insurance coverage, including understanding reimbursement protocols as outlined by the insurance provider CISI.
The student and student’s legal guardian agree to release and hold harmless the Program and its officers, directors, agents, employees and trustees from any claim or liability arising from any death, injury, loss or other damage to the student sustained while enrolled in the Program whether as a result of the alleged act or omission of the Program, its officers, directors, agents, employees or trustees or the conduct of any other person or entity and to indemnify the Program and it’s officers, directors, agents, employees or trustees for any losses, costs, fees or expenses arising out of any claim that is brought by or on behalf of the student. This release and indemnity agreement further apply to any independent travel that may be undertaken by the student. The student and his or her legal guardian(s) understand and agree that the Program has no responsibility whatsoever for the student for periods of the student’s independent travel, if any, or whenever the student is not participating in the Program’s supervised activities. The foregoing release shall not apply to any intentional conduct on the part of the Program or its officers, directors, agents, employees, or trustees.
Lastly, a statement of grades and/or transcript will be released to the student and the student’s home institution only under the condition that all payments and debts have been settled.
The interpretation and construction of this agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
