For non-emergency support outside of the Program’s office hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00-16:00), please follow the instructions below. After seeking immediate help, please inform our staff by emailing stockholm@swedishprogram.org so that we can discuss any additional support you may need.

Medical Assistance #

If you need after-hours medical advice or care, call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700) to get advice from a nurse on how to proceed. Based on your symptoms, the nurse will make a recommendation for your next steps. The nurse might advise you to:

  • Call 112.
  • Go to an emergency room (akutmottagningen).
    • The nurse can tell you which ER is closest to you. We recommend taking a taxi.
    • We recommend bringing your passport as identification, a phone charger, and a book.
  • Go to urgent care (närakuten).
    • Urgent care centers are open from 8:00-22:00 daily. When urgent care is closed, go to an emergency room instead.
    • The nurse can tell you which urgent care center is closest to you. We recommend taking a taxi.
    • We recommend bringing your passport as identification, a phone charger, and a book.
  • Make a doctor’s appointment.
    • Book the soonest available appointment that you can attend. If you think you need to see a doctor sooner than your appointment time, email Daria after you make your booking to ask if you can be seen sooner. Then keep an eye on your inbox – she replies quickly!
    • The nurse might recommend that you visit your local vårdcentral (public health clinic). We recommend booking an appointment with our private healthcare partner instead for faster and easier access to care.

Please understand that Swedish Program staff cannot provide medical advice. We will always advise you to call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700) and/or contact your treating physician. Err on the side of caution and do not delay or avoid seeking care.

Save all receipts and paperwork related to your care so that you can file a claim for reimbursement from your health insurance provider. If you require long or expensive treatment, including hospitalization, please contact CISI’s 24/7 emergency assistance provider, AXA Assistance, by calling +1 (312) 935-1703 or emailing medassist-usa@axa-assistance.us. They will do their utmost to arrange direct billing with the hospital.
