Travel Arrangements #

Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Stockholm. We recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect yourself against travel-related risks such as flight cancellations, lost luggage, or trip interruptions due to personal emergencies. The Swedish Program’s health insurance provider CISI recommends Travel Insured International.

Fall 2026 #

Please arrive in Stockholm and check in with our staff at Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) on Monday, August 24, 2026 between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Most flights arriving on Monday, August 24 will depart from the United States on Sunday, August 23. Please submit your flight itinerary via the Arrival Form by July 15.

Spring 2027 #

Please arrive in Stockholm and check in with our staff at Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) on Monday, January 11, 2027, between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Most flights arriving on Monday, January 11 will depart from the United States on Sunday, January 10. Please submit your flight itinerary via the Arrival Form by December 1.

Departure Dates #

Spring 2026 #

The exam period for Spring 2026 runs through and includes May 1, 2026. Do not book a return flight that departs before the exam period is over, i.e., not before May 2. Exams will not be rescheduled to accommodate return flights. Your apartment must be vacated by May 4.

Fall 2026 #

The exam period for Fall 2026 runs through and includes December 11, 2026. Do not book a return flight that departs before the exam period is over, i.e., not before December 12. Exams will not be rescheduled to accommodate return flights. Your apartment must be vacated by December 14.

Spring 2027 #

The exam period for Spring 2027 runs through and includes April 30, 2027. Do not book a return flight that departs before the exam period is over, i.e., not before May 1. Exams will not be rescheduled to accommodate return flights. Your apartment must be vacated by May 3.

Early Arrival or Late Departure #

Students are not permitted to stay in Program housing outside of the official program dates (i.e., before the arrival date or after the departure date listed in the Academic Calendar). The Program is unable to store luggage; for storage rental options, see Luggage Storage.

Please note that Program resources, including your health insurance, are not active outside of the listed program dates.

Visa Considerations #

Students from visa-free countries, including U.S. passport holders, are permitted 90 days of visa-free travel in Sweden. Therefore, students from visa-free countries are permitted to enter Sweden before the residence permit begins and/or stay after the residence permit expires using their 90 days of visa-free travel.

Students from visa-required countries are only permitted to be in Sweden during the validity of the residence permit and may not arrive before or depart after these dates:

  • Spring 2026 semester: January 12–May 4, 2026
  • Academic year (Fall 2025 and Spring 2026): August 25, 2025–May 4, 2026
  • Fall 2026 semester: August 24–December 14, 2026
  • Spring 2027 semester: January 11–May 3, 2027
  • Academic year (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027): August 24, 2026–May 3, 2027
