Health Insurance & Payment #
CISI Policy and Coverage #
The Swedish Program provides health insurance from CISI (Cultural Insurance Services International). The insurance is specifically designed for students living abroad and is valid anywhere outside of the United States. In general, the policy covers medically-necessary treatment for acute and emergency medical and mental healthcare. Read through the policy carefully to familiarize yourself with your coverage and exclusions.
Please create a myCISI account so that you can log into the myCISI web portal and access your CISI ID Card, consulate letter, policy brochure, claim form, country-specific travel information, and personal security assistance website. Whenever you visit a healthcare provider abroad, have your CISI ID card accessible. We strongly recommend downloading your ID card to your phone and printing a hard copy for your wallet. Use the CISI Traveler app (iPhone/Android) for easy access on the go.
If you have any questions about your coverage, benefits, or claims, please contact CISI by calling +1 (203) 399-5130 (Monday to Friday from 9:00–17:00 EST) or emailing inquiries@mycisi.com (responses may take 2–4 business days). Please include your policy number on all communications.

Payment #
Swedish Program Partners: No Payment #
The Swedish Program’s healthcare partners (Dr. Daria Eriksson and associates at Sartwell Creek Health Care; Svea KBT; Eva-Mari Thomas; and Dr. Angela Marré-Lippitz) will bill CISI directly on your behalf. This means you do not need to file a claim or pay anything out-of-pocket for your care as long as the visit is covered by your policy and you provide the necessary billing details (e.g., your CISI participant ID number).
Other Healthcare Providers: Upfront Payment or Invoice #
If you visit any other healthcare provider while you are abroad, including an ER or urgent care clinic, you typically need to pay for costs upfront. Make sure to save all receipts and records related to your care so that you can file a claim for reimbursement.
- If the healthcare provider requires upfront payment, you will need to pay out-of-pocket and file a claim for reimbursement from CISI.
- If the provider is willing to send an invoice, ask if they can invoice CISI directly. If so, your CISI ID card lists CISI’s billing address and contact information. If the provider cannot invoice CISI directly, provide your personal contact details instead. As soon as you receive the invoice, file a claim with CISI immediately so that CISI can pay the invoice before its due date.
- If you require long or expensive treatment, including hospitalization, please contact CISI’s 24/7 emergency assistance provider, AXA Assistance, by calling +1 (312) 935-1703 or emailing medassist-usa@axa-assistance.us. They will do their utmost to arrange direct billing with the hospital.
Typical Costs #
Healthcare costs are controlled in Sweden and clinic fees are typically all-inclusive (i.e., one fee covers all diagnostics and treatment). Fees vary by clinic, but you can expect to pay around 1500–2000 SEK ($150–200 USD) at an urgent care clinic and 3500-6000 SEK (approximately $350–600 USD) at an emergency room.
File a Claim #
To file a claim, login to the myCISI portal and select “Claim Info and Submissions,” then select “Submit Claim & Check the Status Online.” You will need to upload a completed claim form and all relevant receipts/invoices. This is the fastest and most efficient way to submit and manage claims.
You may also submit your claim via email, but processing times may be longer. To do so, email your completed claim form and receipts to submityourclaim@mycisi.com. Attach your documents as PDF or JPEG files. Please do not embed images in the body of the email, as they cannot be processed.
Claims are typically processed within three weeks after submission. Your reimbursement check will be sent to your U.S. address via the USPS. Please allow an additional 7–10 business days, not including weekends and holidays, for delivery. The checks are valid for 120 days from the date of issuance.
