Attendance & Schedule #
Attendance Policy #
Students are required to attend all class sessions. In the event of sickness, religious observance, or an unforeseen emergency, contact your instructor with as much notice as possible.
If there is a pattern of unexcused absences, your instructor may lower your grade. The Swedish Program considers such a pattern to be a violation of our Terms and Conditions and will take appropriate disciplinary action.
Independent Travel #
Missing class for independent travel is considered an unexcused absence. We recognize that many students want to explore more of Sweden or Europe while studying abroad, so we provide a two-week break for students who wish to do so.
Students can request an excused absence from the Head of Administration for independent travel related to a compelling academic or professional opportunity, such as a SASSE trip or a job interview. The request must be made in advance and the student’s instructors must also agree to grant the request.
Exam Dates #
Midterm and final exam dates are indicated on the course syllabi posted on Google Classroom. Do not make travel plans that conflict with your midterm exam dates or the final exam period. Requests for changing these dates cannot be accommodated to allow for travel or early departure from Sweden (except in the case of Medical Departure). Missing a midterm or final exam for an unexcused reason will result in an immediate expulsion from the course and an F for the final grade.
SSE Direct Enrollment Courses #
Direct enrollment course sessions may sometimes overlap with Swedish Program course sessions. In such cases, students should attend the direct enrollment course. Students should inform the instructor of the conflicting Swedish Program course at least two weeks before the course session they will miss due to the schedule conflict. If your direct enrollment course conflicts with the same Swedish Program course more than twice during the semester, contact the Head of Administration for guidance.
Course Schedule #
Courses are held Monday through Friday, generally between the hours of 8:00–18:00 (8:00 AM–6:00 PM).
We create the weekly schedule after all students have selected their courses in order to minimize course conflicts. If any of your selected courses have a scheduling conflict, you will be notified one to three months before the start of the semester. You will receive your weekly course schedule during orientation in Stockholm.
