Student-Focused Communication #
In accordance with FERPA and GDPR privacy laws, we communicate directly with students for all matters related to their semester in Stockholm. Students are responsible for sharing relevant information with other parties (such as family members or guardians) as needed, including for financial coordination.
Data Collection #
Purpose #
The Swedish Program collects, processes, and securely stores personal data about students in connection to their participation in the Program. The collection and processing of this data is necessary in order to conduct the student’s participation in the Program, or in order to take steps at the request of the student prior to enrollment.
Methods #
Most of the data we collect is self-disclosed by students via these methods:
- Submitting data via our online forms to receive more information about the Program, apply to the Program, enroll in the Program, or participate in Program events and activities.
- Providing data via email, phone, or other contact with Program staff.
- Using or viewing our website via browser cookies.
Some data is collected from staff, the student’s home university, or other partners such as:
- Eligibility to study abroad
- School-specific procedures or protocols that apply to the student
- Internal case notes
What We Collect #
Below find an overview of the data we collect and its sources.
- Data from student self-disclosure: Name, date of birth, email address, phone number, permanent home address, current mailing address, gender identity, nationality, emergency contact information, health and dietary information, headshot photo, personal interests and preferences, home school, academic standing, grades and transcript, major and minor areas of study or concentration, expected graduation date, financial aid details, academic accommodation details, contact family request details, internship request details, passport validity, residence permit and entry visa status, power of attorney for residence permit and entry visa application, flight details to and from Stockholm, travel plans during the study period, passport number, social security number
- Data collected from student’s home school: Study abroad eligibility and status, academic standing, academic accommodation details, financial aid details, disciplinary history, internal case notes
- Data collected from Swedish Program staff: Program enrollment status, participation in Program activities, details related to Program-provided housing in Stockholm, photos and videos from Program activities, internal case notes
- Data from Program partners: Internal case notes related to Program or Program partner operations and premises, email tracking pixels, status of sent email messages
- Data from web cookies: Web behavior while visiting our site
Purpose of Sensitive Data Collection #
Below find information about why we collect certain sensitive data.
- Social security number: To complete required tax paperwork
- Passport number: To allow the housing provider’s security firm to confirm a student’s identity with a federally-issued ID
- Health and dietary information: To advise and support students in managing their health; to inform partners about dietary and environmental allergies
- Disciplinary history: To determine eligibility for participation
- Academic accommodation details: To advise and support students in receiving comparable academic accommodations
Data Sharing #
The Program shares student data with the following partners as necessary to conduct our operations:
- The student’s home school
- The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE)
- The Student Association at SSE (SASSE)
- The student housing provider in Stockholm and the associated security provider
- Contact families
- Internship providers
- Healthcare partners
- Other third-party activity providers such as tour guides, restaurants, hotels, transportation services, payment and financial service providers, and work management tools such as Google for Education.
