In an Emergency #

In an emergency, call 112 for medical, police, and fire emergency responders. For emergency Program support, call the Director, Lillian Döllinger, at 072-2500010 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 72-2500010). For non-emergency support outside of office hours, see After-Hours Help.

If you are unsure whether a medical situation is an emergency, you can call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700) to get advice from a nurse. The nurse will tell you whether you should call 112, go to an ER, or take other steps.

After seeking immediate help, please inform our staff by emailing stockholm@swedishprogram.org so that we can discuss any additional support you may need.

Call 112 #

Call 112 for medical, police, and fire emergency services. This is the public emergency phone number throughout Europe. You should call 112 if you or someone else collapses or has a serious accident, or if there is any other situation requiring emergency ambulance, police, or fire services.

You can call free of charge from any landline or mobile phone. In Sweden, your 112 call will be answered by an operator at an SOS Alarm Center. All SOS operators speak Swedish and English. Try to stay calm, speak clearly, and answer all the operator’s questions, such as: Who needs help and why? Is anybody injured? How many are injured and what type of injuries do they have? The operator needs to ask these questions to decide what type of assistance is needed and dispatch the emergency service as quickly as possible. The operator may need more information while help is on the way, so stay on the phone and remain where you are.

You should only call 112 if you are in an emergency situation and need immediate help. Your call may otherwise delay vital help to people in need. If you are unsure whether a medical situation is an emergency, you can call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700) to get advice from a nurse. The nurse will tell you whether you should call 112, go to an ER, or take other steps.

Emergency Rooms (Akutmottagning) #

Emergency rooms are open 24/7 and use the triage system to treat the most serious cases first. It is not possible to book an appointment. If possible, please call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700) to get advice from a nurse before you go to an emergency room – but do not delay going to the emergency room if you need immediate medical care. We recommend bringing your passport as identification, a phone charger, and a book.

Under Swedish law, everyone is entitled to necessary emergency care. If a patient is incapable of giving consent to such treatment (for example, due to being unconscious), healthcare workers are required to provide the necessary treatment to avert serious threats to the patient’s life or health.

Please note that we do not recommend any particular hospital, as all hospitals in Stockholm provide high-quality care.

We recommend bringing your passport as identification, a phone charger, and a book. When you arrive, take a number and wait to be called up to the reception desk. If you have questions about visiting urgent care, call 1177 (from a non-Swedish number, +46 771-117700).
