Mail & Packages #
Receiving Mail #
All mail and packages must be sent to your apartment or host family address. SSE does not accept student mail. Do not send mail or packages to SSE. Student mail or packages sent to SSE will declined by the mail room and returned to the sender.
Letters #
Letters will be delivered to your mailbox, which is located in your building’s entrance and labeled with your name. Check your mailbox at least once per week. If you receive a letter in Swedish, translate it to make sure you don’t miss any important messages.
Packages #
Packages will be delivered to a nearby service point (postombud or utlämningsställe). You will receive an email, SMS, or letter in your mailbox with information about where your package was delivered and the pickup deadline. The message may be in Swedish.
Make sure that your package is delivered to a staffed service point where you can identify yourself in person. Do not have packages delivered to a package locker (paketbox), because a Swedish BankID is required to access these lockers. If your package has been delivered to a package locker, contact the shipping company to ask them to reroute the package to a staffed service point. PostNord, the Swedish Postal Service, has several service points (serviceställe) near student housing and the SSE campus. Most major shipping companies such as DHL and Bring have many service points to choose from throughout Stockholm.
Please contact your shipping company directly if you need help locating or collecting your package.
Customs and Fees #
Any package that you receive from outside the EU, including from the United States, will be subject to importation paperwork, fees, taxes, and delays. This applies to both personal packages (e.g., a care package from your family) and commercial packages (e.g., an order from an online retailer). Thus, we strongly recommend that you pack a semester-long supply of any products that you will need from home.
If you receive a package from outside the EU, you will be solely responsible for all importation paperwork, contact with customs or shipping authorities, payments, and package collection. You can find more information about importation rules, paperwork, and fees on the website for Tullverket, the Swedish import authority:
- Tullverket: Frequently asked questions about shopping online from countries outside the EU
- Tullverket: Do I have to pay to receive a gift?
- Tullverket: Customs duty and tax exemption for students
Sensitive Documents #
In emergency cases, students can request approval from the Director to ship sensitive documents (e.g., a replacement for a lost passport) directly to SSE. It is important to make the request before shipping the documents so that the Director can provide the correct address and inform the mail room at SSE to accept the package.
Sending Mail #
Letters #
You can buy stamps and envelopes in most grocery stores, convenience stores, and PostNord service points (serviceställe).
Stamps are sold in various values, so make sure you purchase stamps with the correct postage value. For letters up to 50 grams, you need 22 SEK of postage to send the letter within Sweden and 44 SEK of postage to send the letter internationally. For international letters, you should also write “PRIORITAIRE” to the left of the stamp or affix a “PRIORITAIRE” sticker (available at PostNord service points). Once your letter is stamped, drop it in a PostNord mailbox (brevlåda).
If you need to send a letter via registered or tracked mail, visit a PostNord service points (serviceställe).
For more information about sending letters, see Postnord – Sending letters.

There are many different options for sending packages depending on the size, weight, and destination of the package, as well as how quickly you need the package to be delivered, insurance needs, and other preferences.
