Discrimination, Bullying, and Harassment #
The Swedish Program has a zero-tolerance policy regarding discrimination, bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment, and actively works to prevent them from occurring.
According to the Swedish Discrimination Act [2008:567], any form of discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment is prohibited. The law provides protection on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity or origin, gender, gender identity or expression, religion or other beliefs, and sexual orientation.
We are all responsible for creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive environment in the Program, and should take the following steps to ensure this:
- Set a positive example and clearly demonstrate that you do not tolerate discrimination, bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment of any kind.
- Be mindful of your words and behavior and be aware of how they may be interpreted by others.
- Challenge any unacceptable behavior you encounter.
- Show support for those who feel that they have been subjected.
- Inform a Swedish Program staff member or the Equality and Diversity Manager at SSE of any conduct by a student, staff member, or affiliate that is considered inappropriate, unacceptable or unwelcome.
Swedish Program staff will investigate any claims of discrimination, bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment that are brought to our attention, and take appropriate action if the investigation determines that an offence has been committed.
Conduct that is found to constitute discrimination, bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action, including expulsion or dismissal from employment, where applicable.
Reprisals are strictly prohibited, meaning that students may not be subjected to any form of punishment or negative treatment for making a complaint.
